Decking Systems

Northern Steel Decking Ltd is the “one stop shop” for all your suspended slab construction requirements. We carry out the supply, detailing and installation of Metfloor metal decking, edge shuttering, shear stud welding, safety netting and other appropriate fall arrest systems. Furthermore we also offer the supply and installation of reinforcement and pouring of the concrete slab to the metal decking.

Composite Steel Flooring

Our Composite Steel Flooring range of shallow decks are designed and supplied directly from our partner CMF Metfloor®. Choose from CMF Metfloor® 55, 60 or 80 Steel Decking Profiles. All are available in 0.90mm, 1.00mm & 1.20mm gauges and all have a cover width of 600mm, making them safer and easier to handle.

On request, Metfloor products can be manufactured using Magnelis™ Coating. This is generally specified for demanding or aggressive C4 and C5 environments and provide up to ten times more protection than standard galvanising. The Magnelis™ Coating is a unique metallic steel coating that is used in a range of applications and offers long-term surface protection and highly effective corrosion resistance. The unique composition contains 3.5% aluminium and 3% magnesium. The Magnesium content ensures a stable and durable protective layer.

MetFloor® CMF design Software

When specifying a floor deck system, design calculations should be carried out. Load span tables offer general guidance only however should not be used when specifying a product as they are not comprehensive.

The CMF design software incorporates the construction stage & composite slab tests carried out at Imperial College, London together with fire tests carried out at Pavus in the Czech Republic under the management of the SCI (Steel Construction Institute).

This software enables the designer to carry out a deck \ slab design including line loads or punching shear checks in a simple but precise manner. Once the design is finalised, a comprehensive set of calculations can be printed, these are stamped with the SCI “ASSESSED” logo. CMF is the ONLY decking manufacturer to have carried out this SCI assessed ratification for all its profiles.

MetFloor® 55

A traditional dovetail re-entrant composite floor deck. Its profile provides an excellent mechanical key into the concrete slab, offering a strong shear bond performance augmented by stiffeners located in the profile trough.

MetFloor® 55 presents a virtually flat soffit and only a relatively thin slab is required to meet fire design requirements. Highly versatile and popular worldwide. It differs from our other MetFloor products by its shape – MetFloor® 60 & MetFloor® 80 are trapezoidal deck systems.

Shear studs – MetFloor® 55 has a wide trough which gives you great flexibility and efficiency when placing shear studs.

Composite beams’ fire performance – Even for two hours fire rating, the top flange of the steel beam does not require fire protection when used with MetFloor® 55 composite deck.

Under floor services – Services are easy to attach to MetFloor® 55, with the ribs presenting a dovetailed recessed groove in the concrete slab at 152.5mm to 150mm centres. This provides the perfect connection for service hangars via a wedge nut or similar device.

Slab’s fire performance – Because the dovetail has a very small opening, minimal heat is transferred through the slab if there is a fire, therefore when designing for fire purposes, you will need a smaller slab depth.

MetFloor 55 Specs

MetFloor® 60

The ultimate in lightweight steel decking, MetFloor® 60 is a shallow trapezoidal composite floor deck with exceptional spanning capabilities and reduced concrete usage. The result is a highly cost- effective, attractive, and easy-to-install floor solution. The 60 refers to the height of the profile in mm to the shoulder, before the dovetail of the profile. In this case 60mm.

Like MetFloor 80 it differs from MetFloor 55 which is a dovetail re-entrant design deck system. MetFloor 60 offers a number of advantages over MetFloor 55, as it offers you, the customer, a far greater unpropped span capability, and requires less concrete. Even with reduced concrete volume, it still offers an exceptional acoustic & sound insulation, whilst being a more environmentally sustainable option.

Long-span capability – The smarter profile designs of MetFloor® 60 delivers exceptional unpropped spanning capability, helping to reduce structural steel requirements and costs.

Less concrete usage – As it needs less concrete volume for any slab depth, MetFloor® 60 delivers a more sustainable solution and helps reduces costs too.

Enhanced shear stud interaction – This profile is designed with trough stiffeners (ribs to the base of the trough); and joining laps formed asymmetrically to allow for both interlocking and the shear studs to be placed centrally in both the troughs.

Excellent acoustic and fire performance – If required this profile can be manufactured with closed ends to give exceptional fire protection and acoustic performance, while simplifying installation.

MetFloor 60 Specs

MetFloor® 80

MetFloor® 80 is a deeper trapezoidal composite floor deck with even greater spanning capabilities than MetFloor® 60 & MetFloor® 55 together with reduced concrete usage. The result is a highly cost- effective, attractive, and easy-to-install floor solution. The 80 refers to the height of the profile in mm to the shoulder, before the dovetail of the profile. In this case 80mm.

Like MetFloor 60 it differs from MetFloor 55 which is a dovetail re-entrant design deck system. MetFloor 80 offers a number of advantages over both MetFloor 60 & MetFloor 55, as it offers you the customer an exceptional span capability, with the potential for spans over and above those of MetFloor 60. Even with reduced concrete volume, it still offers an exceptional acoustic \ sound insulation, whilst being a more environmentally sustainable option.

Long-span capability – The profile designs of MetFloor® 80 delivers exceptional unpropped spanning capability, helping to reduce structural steel requirements and costs.

Less concrete usage – As it needs less concrete volume for any slab depth, MetFloor® 80 delivers a more sustainable solution and helps reduces costs too.

Enhanced shear stud interaction – Enhanced design profile guarantees central shear-stud positioning to optimise composite action, so reducing the need for on-site checking.

Excellent acoustic and fire performance – If required this profile can be manufactured with closed ends to give exceptional fire protection and acoustic performance, while simplifying installation.
